FAMILY Cordylidae (Girdled Lizards)

Cordylus tropidosternum  Tropical Girdled Lizard
This is another rare lacertid lizard that is found only known from this part of Kenya. Shy and secretive they are confined to the forest and its fringes. As the name suggests they have a very spiny tail and lower back. Brownish grey in colour they are about 8inches in length. They give birth to only two or three live young at a time and are known live a very long time.
