International Snakebite Seminar
Bio-Ken Snake Farm would
like to invite you to the Sixth International Snakebite
Seminar. It will be held at Turtle Bay Beach Club in
Watamu, Kenya on Saturday 27th of September 2008,
starting at 9am. The purpose of this seminar is to
expand on the new WHO Snakebite Treatment Guidelines and
their relevance in Africa as well as to address the
problems relating to a shortage of anti-venom in Africa.
The seminar will also compare detailed and up to date
snakebite treatment procedures.
Please note that you do
not have to be in the medical profession to attend this
seminar. We encourage anyone who is interested in snakes
as well as teachers, farmers, safari guides and
hoteliers to attend.
Our lead speaker will be
Professor David Warrell, of Oxford University in
England. There will be several other top snakebite
experts speaking as well.
This year the
registration fee will be Ksh 1,000/= per person. There
will be a casual get together to meet and familiarize
with others attending in the bar at Hemingway’s Resort
on Friday 26th of September at 7:00 p.m. If you require

International Snakebite Seminar
Bio-Ken
Snake Farm held its fifth Snakebite Seminar at
Hemingway’s Resort in Watamu, Kenya on Saturday 11th
of November 2006.

The late
James Ashe began Snake-bite Seminars in 1998, and they
are held once every two years.
The
purpose of this seminar was to introduce the new WHO Snakebite
Treatment Guidelines and their relevance in Africa as
well as detailed snakebite treatment procedures.
Our
speakers were;
- Dr M. Chisale, of WHO, Brazzaville
- Dr.s Omar, Odthiambo & Erulu, of Kenya
- Prof. D. Warrell, Emeritus Professor of Tropical Medicine,
Centre for Tropical Medicine - University of Oxford,
UK.
There was
a good turnout to the Seminar of over 50 participants,
ranging from Surgeons, Doctors and others involved in
the medical field, through to Expedition leaders, Safari
Guides, Snake-bite victims, students, and other members
of the public with an interest in Snake-bite.
Thanks
go to Professor David Warrell for his captivating and
immensely interesting interactive lectures, as well as
our other guest speakers. Thanks also go to Hemingway's
Resort for kindly hosting the seminar and their
continued support to Bio-Ken.
